Hi Mike, I’ve been a big fan for a while, and I’ve posted before. I’m 47 this month, so, to be honest, I’m a bit scared to even try a bulk because of how difficult it is to lose fat at this point–I do admit my metabolism has evolved in a good way. If you were me, would you continue cutting even more (before even considering a bulk)? Maintain? Or am I lean enough to attempt a reverse diet then clean bulk? If I do a bulk it would be the only/last one, because I almost have the strength and mass I want. I’m 6’0″ 188# right now. Please forgive my ignorance. I’m not sure I understand the fasted state workouts, even tho I’m doing them. If you wake up, eat, and then do your HIIT, besides oxygen and blood being diverted to the stomach for digestion, I don’t see how your body can use the food/calories that are in there, as they haven’t even been digested yet? I mean digestion takes how long? Aren’t you pretty much running on what you ate the day before? Would the body be able to use whats in your stomach if it was just consumed? I mean the fact that egg protein is absorbed at 1.3 g an hour tells me most of my egg protein wont even be a factor if I ate it prior to a fasted workout. What am I missing here?
Diet question: When I started cutting, I was obese (over 30% BF) with about 50 lbs of fat to lose before I get down to 10%. Are there any special instructions for length of the cut? If I am averaging 1lb. fat loss per week, then it may take me upwards of a year before I would be ready to bulk per your book. My energy balance is good, pretty good macros, and I’m still losing 0.5 lb – 2 lb fat per week, so I am not seeing any issues. I just wanted to know if there were any long term effects of going on a cut for that long? You mention reverse dieting after several weeks, but I assume that is only for people that are stagnant and/or much lower BF%. Thanks!
What have I done to avoid this bad habit? I just rarely buy those tempting things such as chips, chocolate, etc. It is hard not to eat junk if you open the kitchen cupboard or the fridge and they are stuffed with trash.

I just have a few questions , I plan on going to the gym in the morning fasted 5 times a week once a day and on 3 of those days do hiit cardio , I plan on buying pulse and forge so do I take these products before my workout on all 5 days , and do I take them on my days off as well ? I have been in really good shape in my life, coming from the Army, but because I am not burning thousands of calories a day for my job anymore, I have noticed that I packed on a few around my midsection. I have definitely gained alot of size and strength but have never had to watch nutrition before. to keep below my chest lean.
Also would like to say if anyone is under any doubts as to whether fasted training and HIIT works take it from me it does and give it a shot. Along with a good/clean diet and heavy 4-6 rep range weight training I lost 4.5 stone and dropped bf from 28% to 9% through last year training fasted.

GREAT article just a few questions I’m doing the 5:2 diet and exercising on my fasting days between 1-2 hours plus exercise on other days as well. I’m down at 24% fat with a goal to go down to 20% but do I have to fast all days in the week (deficit of 20 to 25%) to accomplish this or does the right exercise plus 5:2 do the trick, I’ve only done it for 3 weeks but would be great to know if this will work or not.
